Suzuhara Touji
...Suzuhara Touji is one of the most surprising pilots of the Five, next to Nagisa Kaworu. Touji was first featured as Ikari Shinji's school mate, and seemed like quite a bully. He usually hangs out with Aida Kensuke, a war-soldier wannabe. When Touji finds out in the beginning that Shinji was the one piloting the Evangelion, he got very angry because while Shinji and EVA-01 were fighting against the 3rd Angel, Touji's sister got injured in the debris of the battle. Touji is a very loving, older-brother, and wanted to punish Shinji. Therefore, he punched Shinji.. two times even, and Shinji didn't hold back. And what brought such a surprise to Touji's character was that he, himself, was to become a pilot as well! Touji pilots Evangelion Unit - 03, which is featured as a black/blue type EVA. This is probably a surprise to many EVA fans as well as Touji; who would have thought he would be piloting something he almost hated? And to make it even more surprising, Asuka's best friend, Hikari has a really huge crush on Touji, even though she seems like she just wants to boss him around..but hey! Isn't that the whole concept of Girl-Boy crushes? ^.^* Back to Touji's piloting - Unfortunately, Touji's life as a pilot was cut short, when his own EVA malfunctioned and resulted being the 13th Angel, Bardiel. EVA Unit 01 was forced to go against it's parter, and brought the EVA to a crashing hault, injuring Touji in the process, half of his body had to be amputated, well not half, but an arm and leg. :( Hikari looked after him for a short time while he was in the hospital, and they eventually moved to another city, along with Kensuke and the other kids, leaving Shinji alone once more.
